- Couples Often Ask Us -
How do we make a booking?
We will hold the date for 10 days whilst you contact the Registrar’s Office or the church you wish to use for your ceremony.
During this time we will ask for your full details to allow us to prepare the terms and conditions of hire and your deposit invoice. Once your contracts are ready, we will ask you to confirm your booking with us by signing the T&Cs and paying the £1000 booking deposit.
The balance of your hire cost is split into four equal payments, due at 12, 9, 6 and 3 months prior to your date. If your date is less than 12 months away we will invoice monthly until the usual payment terms can take over. Any optional extras you choose to hire (fire pits, floodlit ruins etc.) and refundable good housekeeping deposit of £1,250 are invoiced and must be paid no later than two weeks in advance of your wedding day.
For no extra cost we also offer a monthly payment plan if you would prefer to make your payments more regularly. From 12 months prior to your booking date we will invoice you monthly with 1/12th of your remaining booking balance after the deposit has been paid. Any optional extras and the refundable good housekeeping deposit are then invoiced in the last few weeks before your wedding as above. If you would like to opt for the monthly invoice option please let us know at the time of booking.
Do you recommend suppliers?
We have a recommended supplier list or can help you find a supplier of your choice. All caterers must have a 5-star food hygiene rating and we require all suppliers to have public liability insurance for a minimum of £10 million, risk assessments and PAT certificates for electrical equipment. The kitchen is to be used by a professional caterer only. If you choose to use a caterer who is not on our recommended supplier list a £350 kitchen charge will be payable.
Is the barn heated?
The Barn is a very old 16th Century building, but we have underfloor heating, external heaters to pump warm air inside, fans in the rafters to push warm air back down to guest level and a new roof which helps keep the barn at a comfortable temperature.
How many guests can be seated in the Barn?
Up to 150 guests for a sit-down meal. If you are holding your wedding ceremony in the barn as well, we recommend a maximum of 120 guests. After the meal we can accommodate 200 guests in total (to comply with fire regulations).
What sort of tables do you have?
We have 8ft long rustic trestle tables which look great without linen and seat 4 guests each side and can be placed in long rows for a less formal style reception or we have 6ft round tables that require linen.
What time do we have access to the Barn on the day before?
Access to the barn is from midday on the day before your wedding. A member of our team will be on hand to welcome you and make sure you have what you need. The day following your wedding we ask you to be cleared away and the Barn vacated by 9am during the week and midday at the weekend.
Is there ample car parking?
We have a meadow adjacent to the Barn which gives plenty of parking for guests and a drop off and collection point right outside the barn entrance.
How late is the licence at the Barn?
Music and alcohol can be served until 12.30am on a Saturday wedding with all guests left by 1am. For midweek weddings music and alcohol are permitted until 11.30am with all guests left by midnight.
Are we allowed to decorate the Barn?
We are flexible with decorations providing they do not damage the fabric of the building. As it is a grade II listed building it is a criminal offense to cause any damage. We are unable to permit helium balloons as if they escape they are liable to cause damage to the roof fans. Any electrical items used within the Barn must have evidence of an appropriate PAT test.
Are we able to have candles?
Candles create a beautiful ambience in the Barn and we permit these providing they are in a container which is tall enough to shield the naked flame. On tables you may have non-drip tapered candles. No live candles are allowed on the stairs, but we do have some remote-controlled LED lights and jars should you wish to use them.
Can we use confetti?
Confetti must be biodegradable (i.e. dried rose petals) so that it disperses quickly and easily. Please only throw it outside the Barn.
Can we organise a firework display? What about sparklers?
We are located on a working farm with sheep and other livestock so we cannot allow fireworks, Chinese lanterns, balloon releases and aerial displays. We do permit sparklers to be used outside only. You can hire two fire pits from us and guests love gathering around these in the evening. We can also floodlight the Godwick ruins for you which look fantastic against the night sky.
Do you have table linen, crockery etc. for us to use?
Table linen, crockery, cutlery and glassware is not supplied by Godwick so you need to ask your caterer to include these items in your quote.
Can we have street food and vans to provide food at our wedding?
Yes you can, either located on the back lawn, weather permitting, or if it’s too wet they can set up on the gravel area on the east side of the barn. As for all caterers we must have evidence of their five-star food hygiene rating and public liability insurance.
Can we provide our own alcohol?
Yes, you can for the daytime, excluding spirits, (up to the end of your meal) and we do not charge corkage. All we ask is that your drinks are served responsibly by your caterers. After your meal we only allow our Godwick bar to provide drinks, either for your guests to purchase (cash or card payment) or we can run a ‘free’ bar with a tab paid for in advance by you. The Godwick bar will be open immediately after your ceremony until last orders.
Can Godwick provide alcohol?
Yes, we use a national wine merchants to have a competitively priced wine list with bottles from £15. We can also arrange welcome drinks and the fizz for speeches. Along with the Godwick bar this provides an easy and complete drinks package for your wedding.
What does the Godwick Bar provide?
We have competitively priced drinks, with draft craft lager, bottled beers and a good selection of cocktails, spirits and soft drinks. All glassware and bar staff are provided and the bar is open from after your ceremony throughout the evening. We do require a minimum spend of £500 on the bar and most events reach this without difficulty. We can take cash and card payments.
What makes Godwick stand out compared to other Norfolk wedding venues?
AGodwick offers a unique blend that sets it apart as a Norfolk wedding venue. We combine a stunningly restored 400-year-old barn (a true ‘blank canvas’) with luxurious on-site accommodation for your core wedding party in Godwick Hall and The Old Stables, plus exclusive access the day before your wedding to ease setup stress. Add our picturesque parkland setting featuring historic ruins for photos, dedicated planning support, and flexibility with suppliers, and you get a truly magical and personal experience unlike many other Norfolk wedding venues.
What is the difference between Godwick Hall and Godwick Barn?
Godwick Great Barn is our main, larger-capacity wedding venue. It’s the stunningly restored, 400-year-old Grade II listed barn where most wedding ceremonies, receptions, and wedding breakfasts take place (comfortably accommodating up to 120 guests). It’s offered as a flexible ‘blank canvas’ space with exclusive use of the barn and its immediate grounds when booked for your wedding day. Godwick Hall is the luxurious, seven-bedroom Georgian country house on the estate. Primarily, it offers exceptional 5-star accommodation for the wedding party, family, or guests when celebrating in the Barn (or for luxury stays). The Hall itself, with its elegant interiors and beautiful gardens, can also be booked as an exquisite venue for smaller, more intimate weddings (typically up to 30 guests), often midweek or during the off-season. Essentially, think of the Great Barn as the primary space for larger wedding celebrations and receptions, and Godwick Hall as the luxury accommodation base and a venue option for intimate weddings. They work beautifully together to provide the complete exclusive Godwick experience.
We're looking specifically for a barn wedding venue in Norfolk. What kind of barn experience do you offer?
Godwick is a quintessential Norfolk wedding venue if you dream of a barn setting! Our Grade II listed Great Barn features original 16th Century brickwork, magnificent oak beams, and high ceilings, offering immense historic character. It’s also a versatile ‘blank canvas’, allowing you to style it exactly how you wish, unlike some barn venues with more fixed decor. We provide the perfect blend of rustic charm and modern facilities expected from a top-tier Norfolk wedding venue.
How accessible is Godwick Hall for guests travelling to Norfolk for our wedding?
Located in the heart of the beautiful Norfolk countryside, Godwick Hall is easily accessible by road while still offering a secluded and private feel, ideal for an exclusive Norfolk wedding venue experience. We provide ample parking, and detailed directions can be supplied to your guests. Its relatively central location within Norfolk makes it reachable from Norwich, King’s Lynn, and other key transport links, ensuring guests travelling to celebrate at our wedding venue have a straightforward journey.
Does choosing Godwick mean we get exclusive use of the Norfolk wedding venue?
When you book the Great Barn for your wedding, you get exclusive use of the barn itself, its immediate grounds, and courtyard areas for the duration of your celebration. This ensures complete privacy for you and your guests, a key benefit when choosing an exclusive use Norfolk wedding venue. Combining this with booking our on-site accommodation offers a truly private country estate feel for your special occasion at Godwick.
Is Godwick suitable as a Norfolk wedding venue year-round?
Absolutely! Godwick is a stunning Norfolk wedding venue in every season. The Great Barn is heated and features beautiful ambient lighting (like our festoons), creating a warm, inviting, and magical atmosphere perfect for autumn and winter weddings. In spring and summer, you can take full advantage of the beautiful grounds, the versatile courtyard for drinks receptions, and the potential for breathtaking outdoor ceremonies with the ruined tower backdrop, making it an adaptable and desirable choice no matter when you plan your Norfolk wedding venue celebration.
