Every great love story starts somewhere – for Lisa and Colin, it all began at the Cosy Club in Norwich, on a crisp September evening in 2020. After chatting for a short while during the small window between lockdowns, they met in person for the first time on the 21st of September. Over sushi dates, muddy countryside walks (one of which ended with Lisa unfortunately landing in stinging nettles), and then countless hours of messaging and video calls during another lockdown, their connection deepened.

Fast forward to Christmas morning, surrounded by festive cheer and cosy pyjamas, Colin proposed — using one of their cats as a distraction for him, kneeling. Lisa’s friends had suspected a proposal might happen on a surprise break planned for February, but Colin’s Christmas surprise made the moment all the more intimate and unforgettable.

When it came time to plan the big day, Lisa stumbled across Godwick Great Barn on Instagram. If you’ve ever planned a wedding before, you will know that as soon as you search for one wedding-related thing, your feed is then filled with venues, dresses, flowers and tips. After viewing just one other venue, they stepped into Godwick’s historic barn and knew instantly it was the one. Its rustic beauty, warm atmosphere, and genuinely welcoming team sealed the deal.

“We felt like family from the first visit to the barn till now”.

Three words to describe the day?
Colin: Best. Day. Ever.
Lisa: Fun. Loving. Special.

With a stunning autumnal theme of rich oranges, earthy browns, mushrooms, flickering candlelight, and — of course — plenty of cat-inspired details, the day was deeply personal and joyfully unique. Custom illustrations of their beloved cats were used for table numbers, their own artwork and photographs adorned the décor, and even their signature cocktail was served at the bar. One of the most sentimental touches? The couple made their own wedding rings — a beautiful symbol of their shared journey.

Unforgettable Moments

The excitement began early as Lisa got ready with loved ones in Godwick Hall. A slight delay in timing didn’t faze the team one bit — they were ready, reassuring, and full of calm energy. The day flowed effortlessly, thanks to the expert care of Debbie-Lee and the rest of the Godwick crew. “Everything ran so smoothly – we booked suppliers, handed over details and everything was taken care of.”

Special shout-outs go to the glitter bar (a massive hit), the incredible magician, the best photographer who brought the best energy and the DJ who kept the dancefloor alive. The weather played its part too and the onsite accommodation made it feel like a weekend retreat for guests. People have commented it was one of, if not the best, wedding they’ve been to, and those who stayed loved the accommodation.

Words of Wisdom

For couples planning their day at Godwick, Lisa and Colin have a few pieces of advice:

  • Trust the team, they know what they’re doing.
  • Great suppliers make all the difference.
  • Enjoy the planning, do not get caught up on the little things.

Looking back, is there anything you’d do differently? Wouldn’t change a thing.

But would love to do it all over again

Forever Starts Here

As they look forward to celebrating their first anniversary back at Godwick, Lisa and Colin reflect on a day that felt not only magical but truly them. “Our day was as important to the Godwick team as it was to us. That’s something we’ll never forget.”

From a muddy walk to a glittering barn, this love story is proof that even in uncertain times, the right person — and the right venue — can make everything feel beautifully certain.
