Some love stories stay with us long after the day is over, and Kim and Joe’s is one we’ll treasure. From their first almost-date wandering a Christmas market to a proposal filled with laughter on a windswept beach, everything about their journey feels joyful, genuine, and so them.
When they chose Godwick, we knew their celebration would be something special – relaxed, elegant, full of heart, and shared with the people (and pups!) they love most. It was a privilege for our team to be part of their day, and we’re delighted to share a glimpse into their beautiful wedding.
Settle in and enjoy Kim and Joe’s love story, captured at Godwick.
Your first names: Kim & Joe Broom
Wedding date: 09.08.25
Ceremony location: Godwick Great Barn – Inside
Wedding Planner & Event Manager: Debbie-Lee
How did you two meet?
“We met back in 2017 when I (Kim) started attending group classes where Joe was an instructor. I fancied him straight away, and Joe apparently felt the same way and found me on Instagram a couple of weeks later. He swiftly slid into my DMs and was very persistent in taking me out on a date.
For our first ‘date’, he took me to the market one evening in December to get a hot chocolate and look at the Christmas lights. Unfortunately nowhere was open for a hot drink, and we don’t actually recall seeing any Christmas lights ”
What was your proposal story?
“On my (Kim) 30th birthday in February 2024, Joe suggested taking the dogs for a walk on the beach (I wasn’t overly impressed with the idea, haha). We had been walking for half an hour or so when Joe randomly started picking up rocks and saying, “This is a nice rock, isn’t it?!” Just when I had had enough of him showing me stupid rocks on the beach, he got down on one knee and pulled out a ring and said, “What about this one?!” My response included a few explicits before I cried and said Yes, of course!”
What made you choose Godwick as your wedding venue, and what were your first impressions of Godwick?
“We always knew we didn’t want a church wedding, and top of our criteria list was getting married somewhere our dogs could come! The moment we walked into Godwick and were greeted by James and Jenni, we knew this was the venue for us.
Godwick isn’t like other barns; it has so much character and history to it, and just gave off a family feel. Not to mention the stunning surroundings and the accommodation!! The fact that we could extend our wedding day and make a weekend out of it by having our nearest and dearest stay just made it even more special.”
Your Wedding at Godwick
Can you describe your wedding day in three words?
“Intimate, magical, unforgettable”
What was the overall vibe or theme of your wedding?
“We are both quite minimalistic people and just wanted a clean and classy vibe to reflect us… We went for white/creams with a touch of sage green for our colour theme. We wanted a chilled vibe that everyone could enjoy!”
What were the most special or memorable moments of the day?
“Our number one special memory has to be our miniature dachshund, Ralph, running down the aisle to us with our rings- he had everyone in tears and was the perfect touch to our ceremony. I (Kim) really enjoyed the speeches; it felt super personal for our nearest and dearest to share memories of us as a couple with our friends and family. I (Joe) enjoyed the end of the night, being able to relax by the fire pits with friends and debrief on the day’s events with a whisky in one hand and pizza in another.”
Did you incorporate any personal or unique touches into your wedding?
“We wouldn’t say there was anything unique as such, but everything we had on our wedding day was just us to a ‘T’.. from having our dogs come over for photos, to having a pick and mix table that could feed the thousands, it was just us as a couple!”
How did Godwick play a part in making your day special?
“Debbie-Lee, hands down, our day just wouldn’t have been the same without her involvement. It was when she said on our consultation call that our wedding was going to be a hit movie and we were going to win the Oscar- I knew that every little detail would be handled to perfection!
We can’t thank her enough and know she will always be a part of our future milestones in life. Godwick as a team just made everything so simple, from the welcome pack including recommended suppliers, to the quick communication from the team, we really felt like we were important to them and not just another wedding.”
What did you love most about getting married at Godwick?
“We loved that everything was in one place, that we could get married in the barn, have the reception there and also utilise the outside space.
The fact we could have the accommodation for the whole weekend was perfect, it allowed us to spend more time with our family and friends, get excited/nervous the night before the wedding and share the drunken stories the day after!
The Sunday felt like a part 2 of the wedding. We had a big BBQ, played games and enjoyed the outside pool.
The Details
Which suppliers helped bring your wedding vision to life?
“Where do we start?! Each and every one of our suppliers played such a big part in our wedding day and in bringing our vision to life. So let’s start with Penny from Synched Events. We rented a lot of props from Penny, and she did all of our draping in the barn. When we were setting up on the Friday, Penny was able to help us with her artistic eye and make suggestions on decorating etc, She went above and beyond what we expected of her!
“Our amazing photographer Jess Ren was so organised, she made sure everyone knew what they were doing, was swift, approachable and just felt like one of our guests, not to mention the odd noises she had to make to get our dogs’ attention (she’s just fantastic!).
“Along with Jess, we had the wonderful Mike Savoury for our videography. He made us feel very relaxed in a situation which we normally feel very awkward in. Everyone at the wedding said how discreet he was throughout the intimate moments. We can’t wait to see the final video!
“Our florist was the lovely Emily from Park Farm Flowers. She followed the brief to the T and ensured everything was set up on both the Friday and the Saturday, the flowers were stunning, and we have even had some pressed in resin for a keepsake.
“Our caterers for the wedding breakfast and canapés were B&R. One word: INSANE! Everyone was nothing but complimentary about the food and menu choices. Jacob was at hand on the Friday to organise the table seating and knew the exact timelines to make sure everything ran smoothly on the day.
“Our evening food was ‘The Simple Slice Pizza Co’, we don’t know how Pete managed to cater to so many people and their requirements while ensuring people weren’t waiting ages for their food. The pizzas were amazing and tasted even better when we were hungover the next day.
“Last but absolutely not least, our band ‘Happy Hour’, we requested an acoustic version of Coldplay – My Universe, for our first dance, and they nailed it! They kept the vibe going all night, played some absolute bangers and ensured the dance floor was never empty.”
Do you have a favourite wedding photo?
“There are so many photos we adore, and that’s just from our sneak peek photos. Our favourite ones are the candid photos we had taken in the surrounding fields after the group shots had been taken. They are just natural and really capture the happiness and euphoria we were feeling at that time.”
Was there a particular element of the day that your guests loved?
“The photobooth that the band supplied provided some good entertainment for the night. Also, everyone still comments on little Ralph (our dog) being our ring bearer and sprinting down the aisle to us!”
Advice for Future Couples
What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding at Godwick?
“Just simply to trust the staff at Godwick, they are experts in this field and know exactly what they are doing. Also, to make as much use of the venue as possible, there are so many beautiful elements to the location.”
Looking back, is there anything you’d do differently?
“Absolutely nothing, no regrets whatsoever (can we do it again already?!)”
What’s your best piece of advice for enjoying your wedding day to the fullest?
“To take a moment together to sit back and absorb the day/evening, it can feel overwhelming, but just remember everyone you love in life is there for both of you and that in itself is a magical thing!”
