GODWICK HALL & GREAT BARN

FAQs

Norfolk Barn Wedding Venue

Can we get married outside at your Norfolk barn wedding venue?

Absolutely. We think there’s nothing more romantic than an outside ceremony at Godwick where you can say your legal “I dos” outside in front of the magnificent backdrop of the ruins of the Lost Village of Godwick. With the 11th-century church tower behind you and our magnificent 16th Century barn behind your guests and the massive Norfolk sky above, it’s a setting that purpose-built venues just can’t replicate.

How many guests can your barn wedding venue in Norfolk accommodate?

Our 450-year-old Great Barn is surprisingly spacious! We can comfortably seat up to 120 guests for your ceremony. For the wedding breakfast, we can actually stretch to 150 seated, but generally cap this at 120 to make the transition from ceremony to drinks reception and wedding breakfast as seamless as possible, and once the tables are cleared for the evening party, we can host a total of 200 guests for a proper Norfolk shindig.

Is Godwick Great Hall & barn an exclusive-use Norfolk wedding venue?

Yes, entirely. When you book a wedding at Godwick, the barn, the lawns, and the surrounding grassland are yours and yours alone. We don’t do ‘conveyor belt’ weddings; we want you to feel like the estate is your own private home for the duration of your stay.

Is the Great Barn cold? (We know what Norfolk winters are like!)

Not at all. While the barn is a 16th-century Grade II listed treasure, we’ve added some very modern comforts. It features full underfloor heating, external heaters to pump in warm air, and even fans in the rafters to push that warmth back down to guest level. It’s a cosy, year-round barn wedding Norfolk destination.

Can we bring our own drinks to your wedding venue?

We are big believers in ‘your day, your way.’ We don’t charge a corkage fee for any drinks you provide during your initial reception and the wedding breakfast. For the evening, we transition to our fully stocked, bespoke Godwick Bar so you can focus on the dancefloor.

What exactly is the ‘Godwick Fergie’ tractor ride?

It’s our signature move! We use our vintage Massey Ferguson tractor (affectionately known as Fergie) to whisk you out to the ruins for photos and to transport the bridal party from the accommodation to the venue. It’s a bit eccentric, very Godwick, and makes for some of the most iconic wedding photos in Norfolk.

Do you have on-site accommodation for our guests?

We certainly do. We can sleep up to 30 adults across the estate (increasing to 36 if you include child z-beds). This includes the luxury of Godwick Hall, the Old Stables, and our quirky-luxe Shepherd’s Huts and Stargazer Bell Tents (available April–September) for those who want to sleep under those famous Norfolk stars.

Is your Norfolk wedding venue pet-friendly?

We wouldn’t have it any other way—we even call it ‘Dogwick’! We love a dog of honour, and most of our accommodation is dog-friendly. As long as your four-legged friends are kept on leads around our resident sheep, they are more than welcome to be part of your history.

What makes a wedding in Norfolk so special?

There is a specific kind of magic in Norfolk that you won’t find in the home counties. It’s the big skies and endless horizon that turns a sunset into a cinematic event. Choosing a Norfolk wedding venue means trading the rush of the city for a slower, more soulful pace. At Godwick, you aren’t just booking a room; you’re booking a landscape of rolling parkland, ancient ruins, and that crisp, salty air that drifts in from the nearby coast.

Is Norfolk a good location for a destination weekend wedding?

Absolutely. We often find our couples treat Godwick as a wedding weekend hub. Beyond the barn, your guests can explore the hauntingly beautiful North Norfolk coast (only 13 miles away), the independent boutiques of Burnham Market, or nearby Holkham Hall. Norfolk is for the couples who want luxury without the ‘stiff upper lip’—it’s grand, it’s wild, and it’s completely unforgettable.

Does a Norfolk barn wedding work in any season?

Norfolk is a county of four distinct, beautiful acts. In spring, the Godwick estate is a sea of green and new lambs; in summer, our beautiful horizon provides the ultimate backdrop for outdoor drinks. Autumn brings a golden hue to the 450-year-old timbers of the barn, and in winter, there is nothing quite like the drama of the ruins silhouetted against a frosty morning. A barn wedding in Norfolk is timeless, no matter when you say ‘I do’.
