Weddings at Godwick

Godwick is a magical setting in rural Norfolk for weddings and creating memories that will stay with you forever. In the past decade as the wedding venue has grown, we have never lost our passion for hosting weddings – whether that’s large weddings at our barn wedding venue Godwick Great Barn; smaller, intimate weddings at Godwick Hall; or just-for-two elopement weddings in the beautiful drawing room at Godwick Hall.

For every wedding we strive to help our couples create the wedding of their dreams. When you combine this passion with a magical landscape, fabulous Norfolk wedding barn and luxurious accommodation at Godwick Hall you have all the right ingredients for memory making.

We hold three types of weddings at Godwick:

Godwick Great Barn – large barn weddings circa 120 guests, weddings held on Saturdays, Thursdays and Tuesdays

Godwick Hall – small, intimate weddings – up to 30 guests, weddings held on Tuesdays and Thursdays (also Saturdays from November to March) 

Elopement weddings  – romantic just-for-two weddings – up to six guests, weddings held Tuesdays to Thursdays

Set on the site of the Lost Village of Godwick, amongst ancient parkland that has remained untouched for centuries, Godwick oozes history, character and magnificence.

Godwick Great Barn

Our grade II listed wedding barn, with its 16th Century original brickwork and the warm glow of the festoon lighting, offers a fabulous blank canvas to build your perfect celebration. With the help of our in-house planning team, you can invite your own hand-picked team of suppliers to realise your visions. Our unique location allows us to offer you not only a stunning space for an indoor legal or celebrant ceremony but also a summer outdoor ceremony. The unspoilt Norfolk countryside and our own ruined church tower provides the perfect backdrop to your ‘I do’s’

Amazing outside spaces and an ancient landscape provide a host of wonderful outside photo opportunities. Godwick has never been an ordinary venue. Quirky, eccentric, but always wonderfully glorious. It’s the perfect place to create your ideal wedding.

Norfolk Twilight Weddings

We are pleased to introduce our Twilight Wedding package at Godwick Great Barn, available from May to the end of September. Rather than going for a more common afternoon ceremony, why not rearrange your timeline for a relaxed evening ceremony inside or outside at a lower price. Hire in food trucks and escape the table plans for a more casual atmosphere. Available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from May until 30 September. Package includes:

  • Wedding Co-ordinator service from the Godwick Team to provide advice and help with planning your arrangements from the time of your booking
  • Godwick Event Manager on the day/evening to ensure plans run smoothly
  • Two firepits lit with fuel and seating
  • The Godwick Ruins floodlit for the evening
  • List of Godwick suppliers for you to choose from
  • Seating and tables for your guests
  • Use of grounds for photography
  • Gold package includes a 2 night stay at Godwick Hall for 14 adults
  • Silver package includes a 2 night stay in The Old Stables for six adults

FAQ’s

We’ve put together a list of commonly asked questions to help you plan your day We are licensed for weddings ceremonies at Godwick Great Barn and Godwick Hall.

How do we make a booking?  We will hold the date for 10 days whilst you contact the Registrar’s Office or the church you wish to use for your ceremony.

During this time we will ask for your full details to allow us to prepare the terms and conditions of hire and your deposit invoice.  Once you have confirmation from the Registrar or church that your date is available then we ask you to confirm your booking with us by signing the T&Cs and paying the booking deposit (£500 for venue hire and £500 if accommodation is also required).

The balance of your hire cost is split into four equal payments, due at 12, 9, 6 and 3 months prior to your date.  If your date is less than 12 months away we will invoice monthly until the usual payment terms can take over.  Any optional extras you choose to hire (fire pits, floodlit ruins etc.) and refundable good housekeeping deposit of £1,250 are invoiced and must be paid no later than two weeks in advance of your wedding day.

Do you recommend suppliers?  We have a recommended supplier list or can help you find a supplier of your choice.  All caterers must have a 5-star food hygiene rating and we require all suppliers to have public liability insurance for a minimum of £10 million, risk assessments and PAT certificates for electrical equipment.  The kitchen is to be used by a professional caterer only. If you choose to use a caterer who is not on our recommended supplier list a £200 kitchen charge will be payable.

Is the barn heated?  The Barn is a very old 16th Century building, but we have underfloor heating, external heaters to pump warm air inside, fans in the rafters to push warm air back down to guest level and a new roof which helps keep the barn at a comfortable temperature.

How many guests can be seated in the Barn?  Up to 150 guests for a sit-down meal. If you are holding your wedding ceremony in the barn as well, we recommend a maximum of 120 guests.  After the meal we can accommodate 200 guests in total (to comply with fire regulations).

What sort of tables do you have?  We have 8ft long rustic trestle tables which look great without linen and seat 4 guests each side and can be placed in long rows for a less formal style reception or we have 6ft round tables that require linen.

What time do we have access to the Barn on the day before?  Access to the barn is from midday on the day before your wedding.  A member of our team will be on hand to welcome you and make sure you have what you need.  The day following your wedding we ask you to be cleared away and the Barn vacated by 9am during the week and midday at the weekend. 

Is there ample car parking?  We have a meadow adjacent to the Barn which gives plenty of parking for guests and a drop off and collection point right outside the barn entrance.

How late is the licence at the Barn?  Music and alcohol can be served until 12.30am on a Saturday wedding with all guests left by 1am.  For midweek weddings music and alcohol are permitted until 11.30am with all guests left by midnight.

Are we allowed to decorate the Barn?  We are flexible with decorations providing they do not damage the fabric of the building. As it is a grade II listed building it is a criminal offense to cause any damage.  We are unable to permit helium balloons as if they escape they are liable to cause damage to the roof fans.  Any electrical items used within the Barn must have evidence of an appropriate PAT test.

Are we able to have candles?  Candles create a beautiful ambience in the Barn and we permit these providing they are in a container which is tall enough to shield the naked flame.  On tables you may have non-drip tapered candles.  No live candles are allowed on the stairs, but we do have some remote-controlled LED lights and jars should you wish to use them.

Can we use confetti?  Confetti must be biodegradable (i.e. dried rose petals) so that it disperses quickly and easily.  Please only throw it outside the Barn.

Can we organise a firework display?  What about sparklers?  We are located on a working farm with sheep and other livestock so we cannot allow fireworks, Chinese lanterns, balloon releases and aerial displays. We do permit sparklers to be used outside only. You can hire two fire pits from us and guests love gathering around these in the evening.  We can also floodlight the Godwick ruins for you which look fantastic against the night sky.

Do you have table linen, crockery etc. for us to use?  Table linen, crockery, cutlery and glassware is not supplied by Godwick so you need to ask your caterer to include these items in your quote.

Can we have street food and vans to provide food at our wedding?  Yes you can, either located on the back lawn, weather permitting, or if it’s too wet they can set up on the gravel area on the east side of the barn.  As for all caterers we must have evidence of their five-star food hygiene rating and public liability insurance.

Can we provide our own alcohol?  Yes, you can for the daytime, excluding spirits, (up to the end of your meal) and we do not charge corkage.  All we ask is that your drinks are served responsibly by your caterers.  After your meal we only allow our Godwick bar to provide drinks, either for your guests to purchase (cash or card payment) or we can run a ‘free’ bar with a tab paid for in advance by you. The Godwick bar will be open immediately after your ceremony until last orders.

Can Godwick provide the alcohol?  Yes, we use a national wine merchants to have a competitively priced wine list with bottles from £15.  We can also arrange welcome drinks and the fizz for speeches.  Along with the Godwick bar this provides an easy and complete drinks package for your wedding.

What does the Godwick Bar provide?  We have competitively priced drinks, with draft craft lager, bottled beers and a good selection of cocktails, spirits and soft drinks. All glassware and bar staff are provided and the bar is open from after your ceremony throughout the evening.  We do require a minimum spend of £500 on the bar and most events reach this without difficulty.  We can take cash and card payments.

Elopement weddings

Our runaway, just-for-two elopement weddings are a romantic delight.  

Ceremonies take place in Godwick Hall’s stunning drawing room, dining room or garden with celebratory drinks in its sumptuous surroundings.  The room can be dressed to create the right feel for your wedding. Drawing on our years of experience of hosting weddings we will work with couples to create the day that you are after, whether that be informal and intimate, cosy and warm or eccentric and eclectic. It’s up to you. 

Godwick Hall is available for elopement weddings on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays throughout the year.

The elopement package includes:  

  • Two-hour hire of Godwick Hall for your wedding ceremony and celebratory drinks in the sumptuous Drawing room for two. Up to six guests.
  • Ceremony witnesses can be arranged at no extra cost, if required
  • A bottle of fizz to toast your marriage
  • Self-catering accommodation for two nights in a cute and quirky Shepherd’s Hut or Godwick Stargazing Bell Tent
  • A bottle of fizz chilling in your Hut on arrival to kick off the celebrations
  • Godwick Welcome Breakfast Hamper delivered to your Hut on arrival
  • For small groups up to six people, there is an option to stay for two-nights in the luxury five-star accommodation of The Old Stables
  • Wedding planning service from the Godwick Team to provide advice and help with your wedding arrangements
  •  Godwick Event Manager on the day to help things run smoothly
  • List of Godwick suppliers for you to choose from
  •  Use of Godwick’s stunning grounds for photography

Small Weddings at Godwick Hall

Godwick Hall is a seven bedroom luxury large house that can be gracefully transitioned into a small and intimate wedding venue, where couples can embark on their own love story surrounded by understated luxury. Stepping onto its grounds, visitors are enveloped in an aura of rustic sophistication and isolated romance, making Godwick Hall an unforgettable destination for weddings and celebrations for up to 30 people.  

Godwick Hall is available for midweek weddings on Tuesday or Thursdays throughout the year and for weekend weddings from November to March, excluding Christmas, New Year, and Bank Holiday weekends.  Small wedding packages for up to 30 people include:

  • Access to the venue and accommodation from 4pm for set-up and check-in, with a 10am check-out on date of departure 
  • Wedding Co-ordinator service from the Godwick Team to provide advice and help with planning your arrangements 
  •  Godwick Event Manager on the day to ensure things run smoothly 
  • List of Godwick suppliers for you to choose from 
  • Use of grounds for photography 
  • Vintage tractor ride to Godwick ruins for couple for photography 
  • Self-Catering accommodation hire: Exclusive use of Godwick Hall, for a two-night stay (three nights on weekends) on a self-catering basis for up to 14 guests. Additional accommodation for up to 30 adults can be hired.

Additional accommodation can be hired to accommodate a total of 30 adults on site.

We had our long-awaited wedding at the Barn. The night before, and night of the wedding, our family stayed in the Hall as well. I’d give 1000 stars if I could, and it’s not just because I’m still all hopped up on my wedding high! The Godwick team are an amazing set of people who genuinely care about the work they do, as well as making every effort that you have the best day of your life. They were a dream to work with. And they made sure our day was perfect, which it absolutely was.

Want a stunning countryside wedding?! Look no further

Godwick as a venue was everything we wanted. The barn and scenery was stunning and meant no matter the weather you were guaranteed a beautiful countryside wedding. The accommodation onsite is also incredible and turned the celebrations into a 2 day affair! The team gave us free rein and supported all the ideas we had to make the wedding really bespoke. Perfect Venue

Godwick was the perfect venue! A beautiful setting with amazing staff, giving the right balance of support and freedom.

We wanted an outside ceremony but the weather had other ideas, but the staff did everything they could to try make this come true until the final hour, before creating a beautiful indoor ceremony that was just as perfect.

The opportunity to have this venue alongside having our friends and family there for the weekend in a gorgeous accommodation was amazing!
