Your Love Story
How did you two meet?
It was a bit of a blind date situation at our mutual friend’s summer BBQ, and things blossomed from there.
What was your proposal story?
We were in the Lake District with our dog Norman, Jonny proposed mid-walk, and the ring was on Norman’s collar. I didn’t see it coming at all, and it was absolutely perfect. We love walking and exploring new places, so it was just the most fitting way to do it and a very special moment we treasure.
What made you choose Godwick as your wedding venue, and what were your first impressions of Godwick?
We viewed A LOT of venues, Godwick was the 2nd place we viewed, and I think we both knew there and then it was the one – nothing compared to that first feeling we got when we arrived. We were met by a glass of fizz from the very friendly James (which was even more lovely as the day we viewed for the first time was my birthday), and we were just taken aback by the warm feeling Godwick emits, the beauty of the barn and its surroundings. Also, we loved how flexible the venue is. We were keen to put our own stamp on the barn, and the whole team really supported us in that. It was important to us to have time at the barn to create our vision, and having the whole weekend to celebrate was just brilliant – the accommodation is beautiful, and our time at the Hall with all our family and friends was as special as the ceremony in the barn itself.
Your Wedding at Godwick
Can you describe your wedding day in three words?
Unforgettable, joyful & magical.
What was the overall vibe or theme of your wedding?
We didn’t have a set theme as such, we had wonderfully bright flowers and some gorgeous draping in the barn. It turned out to be one of the hottest days of the Summer, and the whole day just felt beautifully relaxed and full of fun, which was exactly what we wanted. Everyone was enjoying themselves, laughing, and having a great time, which was so important to us.
What were the most special or memorable moments of the day?
There are so many – but to mention a few, the morning of the wedding where we were all getting ready was such a nice time to spend together before the celebrations began. Jonny and his groomsmen swam in the pool while myself and our Mum’s and bridesmaids got ready in the conservatory area with a view of all the pool shenanigans, which was brilliant. Seeing each other at the end of the aisle was such a special moment too that we will never forget. We were hesitant to spend too much time away from everyone and miss out on anything when we left our reception for a bit to have some photos at the beautiful ruins, however, this time together was so special for just the two of us to try and take everything in, before we got back to catching up with everyone.
Did you incorporate any personal or unique touches into your wedding?
Yes, there were quite a few! We both love walking and going on adventures together, so we used different rocks we’d collected from our walks as place settings, each one painted with our guests’ names. We also used shells we’d collected as cocktail tokens for everyone. Our amazing family and friends helped us decorate the barn and the trees outside with ribbons the day before, which made it feel so special knowing they’d helped create our day. One of our groomsmen, Alex, is an incredible graphic designer, and it meant the world to us that he designed all of our signage. Jonny’s brother-in-law, Scott, even built us a bar! The whole thing just felt like a real team effort, and that made it all the more personal and amazing!
How did Godwick play a part in making your day special?
From the very beginning, it was clear that the whole team is truly passionate about Godwick itself and what they do. They genuinely care about bringing each couple’s vision to life. James took so much time to show us around and even welcomed us back with our families when we wanted to share the venue with them. Megan, our wedding planner, was absolutely brilliant – she regularly checked in as the day got closer, answered all my last-minute questions with such kindness, and was even there on our set-up day to lend a hand. The whole team was fantastic – supportive, friendly and attentive. We felt really listened to throughout the entire process and appreciated the flexibility Godwick offered for our celebrations.

Advice for Future Couples
What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding at Godwick?
Go for it! Go for the ideas and elements that are important to the two of you. Anything you’re thinking about, discuss it with the Godwick team – from our experience, they will do their absolute best to make it happen.
Looking back, is there anything you’d do differently?
Looking back, we have so many fun, special memories from the whole weekend that there’s nothing we’ve really dwelled on or wish we could change. One tiny thing is we would have loved to have our dog Norman in a few more photos, but with it being such a scorcher, he was much happier chilling back at the Hall with @ohbellaweddingdaydogs.
What’s your best piece of advice for enjoying your wedding day to the fullest?
The day really does go so quickly – everyone told us, but having now had our wedding day, it really does whizz by! From the moment we walked through the confetti, it felt like one big blur, albeit a very special, magical one. That’s why we loved having Sunday at Godwick afterwards, to spend more time with everyone and relive the day. Our advice would be to try to take it all in as much as you can, spend time together, enjoy it, and have fun! Oh, and keep a close eye on timings in the morning – it’s easy to get caught up in the fun and forget the clock as Jen did!
