An initial online dating introduction led to a merry first date full of laughter. They were enchanted by the beauty of Godwick Great Barn and the assistance of the planning team – it just felt like home.

Names: Charlotte & Steve

Wedding Date: 28.8.25

Wedding type: Twilight inside ceremony

Wedding planner & Event Manager: Hannah

How did you two meet?

“We met on Bumble, our first date was on the 11th January 2020, at The Green Dragon in Wymondham. We got rather drunk and ended up being refused anymore rum! Steve came back to mine, and he never left!”

What was your proposal story?

“We were on a break to Malta. We took a day trip to Gozo, which included a boat ride to the Blue Lagoon at Comino. We went for a walk across the rocks, and as I was taking pictures of the scenery, Steve was on one knee behind me.”

What made you choose Godwick as your wedding venue, and what were your first impressions of Godwick?

“We chose Godwick because of the beauty of the venue – it felt like home. Hannah made us feel calm and well looked after. It was also close to my family home so I felt like I was really coming home to get married!”

Your Wedding at Godwick

Can you describe your wedding day in three words?

“Absolutely perfect day!!!”

What was the overall vibe or theme of your wedding?

“We had a strong travel theme to our wedding, travelling means a lot to us.

The flowers were rustic and simple, so we asked for Edwardian theme flowers to go with Charlotte’s dress. The colour scheme was dusty blue and white. Photographs of our travels and some great events like my hen do were scattered around the venue.”

What were the most special or memorable moments of the day?

“One thing I will never forget is watching Hannah, our wedding planner, coming to the rescue with umbrellas, bouncing up and down on the uneven terrain, as we returned to the Barn in the rain from our photos at the ruins!

“The music was also a highlight. Our evening band Three Mile Hill, came as an acoustic duo version for the daytime, they were incredible!”

Did you incorporate any personal or unique touches into your wedding?

“Yes, we had many. Photographs were scattered around the venue, pictures of our travel adventures filled the bar and photographs of the Hen Do were on the mirror in the ladies loo.

“We named our tables after some of our favourite travel destinations and our favours / table names were luggage tags!

“Our guest book had polaroid slots in, so guests to snap a photo, leave us a message and also recommend a travel destination of their choice.”

How did Godwick play a part in making your day special?

“From the first meeting to the very end, Godwick was on hand and considered every detail. They made us feel like the only ones to ever get married there. All the staff were calm and supportive which made us feel relaxed and completely trusting of them.”

What did you love most about getting married at Godwick?

“The barn is stunning and the scenery is like a dream.  The drive to the hall up the long drive is impressive, and being surrounded by animals felt so comforting and like home. The accommodation was stunning and just what we wanted to come back to after a long wedding day. The Godwick team are truly one of a kind.”

The Details

Which suppliers helped bring your wedding vision to life?

  • Forget-me-not Florist just blew my mind with how beautiful the flowers were. They were not expensive compared to other vendors and she has such a love for flowers it showed in every placement of each stem.
  • “Synched Events – Penny just took the stress away and turned all our boxes of stuff into a wedding… mind blown! Handmade signs and table names with  detailed drawings of the cities they represented were out of this world!
  • “We also all really enjoyed the tractor rides!”

Do you have a favourite wedding photo? If so, what makes it special to you?

Groom: “Group shots up at the ruins and confetti shot. Being with our favourite people in one place and so happy with us was super special.”

Bride: “Ceremony moments and couple shots. Seeing us dressed up as husband and wife in beautiful surroundings was priceless.”

Was there a particular element of the day that your guests loved?

“Everyone said it was really personal. The speeches seemed to impress and make everyone cry.

“They felt that we created a welcoming space for people to relax and enjoy each other’s company. They all felt the venue was stunning.

“The ladies loved the glitter kits in the loo for the night time and the fire pits were a hit too!”

Advice for Future Couples

What advice would you give to couples planning their wedding at Godwick?

“Listen to your coordinator,  they know everything!!!

“Embrace the beauty of the surroundings and venue itself.  It does all the talking.”

Looking back, is there anything you’d do differently?

Groom: “Probably gone for a weekend date, it would have been great to extend the celebration in the accommodation”

Bride: “Get married a little earlier to party longer. A twilight option seemed great for us initially but once the day arrived we didn’t want it to end!”

What’s your best piece of advice for enjoying your wedding day to the fullest?

  • Take it all in, enjoy it for each other
  • Don’t worry about others having fun. It’s your day
  • Take moments to look back at everyone
  • Take moments to be alone together and just breathe.
  • It goes so quickly dont take any of it for granted. “
